          Réaumur is a commune of approximately 800 inhabitants. There are various local businesses and communal services: a post office, a primary school, clubs, associations… There is also a tourist office which provides up-to-date information about Réaumur and its surroundings.

          The commune of Réaumur works on improving the living conditions of its inhabitants. Recent road improvement includes a newly-developed car park.

          The Saint-Pierre Church of Réaumur is listed as a historic monument.The building was constructed in the 14th century. In the beginning of the 15th century onmy a main portal and the bell twoer were still in place. This fortified Church served as a refuge for the inhabitants of the village during the Hundred Years' War.

          The medieval Manor of the Lord of Manor René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur was acquired between 1628 and 1635. It became the property of the commune in 1991, a year of the beginning of its restoration by the volunteers of the association.

          In 1995, the eastern side of the building was finished with typical 18th century joinery which gave it dashing look. That same year Philippe de Villiers, President of General Council, on a visit to Réaumur announced to the volunteers that the Vendée department would become the first partner of the project.

         The “MARPA” (an old people home) is a social initiative. Its main goal is to provide elderly with a place and the quality of life which preserve their normal activity patterns and habits. The “MARPA” joins in the approach to fight against the elderly exclusions and participates in the local social development to allow the fulfillment of each life path, until its end. It is headed by Mrs Françoise Berger accompanied by a professional team of nine people.

      Réaumur is a small commune of 800 inhabitants, situated in the West of France, in the department of Vendée. The Medieval French scientist René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur put this small town on the world map. His home - the Manor of Science - is open for daily visits. From June 2017, fully refurbished, the Manor des Science offers visitors an interactive and sensory journey, in the home and gardens of the illustrious owner of the place, René-Antoine Ferchault, eminent man of science of the eighteenth century.

          Located along the road D752 between Pouzauges and Cheffois, Réaumur offers its visitors varied accommodations. One of them owned by Mr and  Mrs François GARRET. The Priory St Pierre provides a lodging for two or four people, the stay includes a breakfast and a use of a swimming pool and a tennis court. The rural hotel is surrounded by a 18th century landscaped park.

          Réaumur is a French commune located in the North-East of the Vendee department, in the Pays de la Loire Region. In 2015, there were about 820 inhabitants. Réaumur has many sports associations (football, bowls…), cultural groups (music…) or youth clubs… Associations organize events and parties, such as the Chocolate Festival. Also, in Reaumur, we can visit the Manor of Sciences and the Lake Castle.

          The former Seigneury of René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur was acquired between 1628 and 1635, became the property of the municipality in 1991, a date of the beginning of its restoration by the volunteers of the association.

          The theatre started in Réaumur a long time ago… After a break, in the end of 2004, following the renovation of a hall of Joan of Arc, the idea came to recreate a troop: the association of the Small Theater of Ferchault was born.

         Every year, the group of dedicated actors performs on the stage for the pleasure of the public. Friendly and creative atmosphere of this drama club is under leadership of its director Yoann Sourisseau. The drama club recruits!

         Three clubs, five communes.

         In July 2017, “PBFC”, (Pouzauges Bocage Football-Club) was created. The two sport clubs (Saint-Mesmin and Chavagnes-les Redoux / Tallud-Sainte-Gemme) joined the “ACPR” (Athletic Club of Pouzauges and Reaumur). This historic merger brought together five neighbouring communes. Historically, football in this area has always been developing around ambitious projects. Philippe Bazantay, president of the “ACPR” explained: "It is the will of the leaders of the three clubs to build a common sports project by maintaining and developing the practice of football in all five communes”.

         There are many crafstmen in Réaumur such as a car mechanic, a shop, a hairdresser or even a bakery. The Réaumur bakery has been a family business for several generations.

         The “A.P.E.L.” represents all the parents of the educational community. It welcomes new families on the Open Day and offers a drink on the day of the start of the school year.

 

            The Réaumur library called “Bibliaumur”  is open most of the days for all the children and adults who wish to read or to search for knowledge. Comic books, documentaries, novels, books for children, there is something for everyone. Various activities are offered during the year.

The library site http://biblio.paysdepouzauges.fr/index provides the online catalog, favorite reads, practical information, the activities to anticipate ...

 

          The library membership is 10 euros per year per adult, but it is free for children under 16 years. 

 

Activities are proposed all year round:

- The baby readers every first Thursday of the month

- The children come every month to listen to stories

- The literary prize

- The bibliorallye

- The Christmas decorations made by the children

        The “C.C.A.S” is an "administrative public institution", responsible for implementing the communal social action policies. It works on a general activity connected to prevention and social development in the commune in close connection with the public, associative and private institutions.

 

          The “C.C.A.S” is governed by a Board of Directors which is the deliberative body. The board of directors is composed equally of members elected by the municipal council and members appointed by the mayor.

          Réaumur is a dynamic commune which welcomes many historical, cultural and tourist associations:

 

-  Pastaboule, created in 2003, as a result of the gathering of several enthusiasts who were fond  petanque and would like to continue to compete under an associative entity.

 

- There are two hiking trails to walk in Reaumur: "Sentier les Moulins" and "Sentier les Rives du Lay".

 

- The wash house “Remaude” was completely rebuilt in 1996. Over the years, it became a landfill. To start with, volunteers cleaned it up and then the commune decided to renovate it. Located on the circuit of the trail "Sentier les Moulins", it is frequently visited by hikers.

  • Famous René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur was a "touch all” scientist, at the same time he was a biologist, a geologist, a physicist, a botanist and a great animator of the Academy of Science.

         There are six childminders in the commune of Reaumur. The school “Sainte-Marie” of Réaumur welcomes sixty pupils who are divided into three classes supervised by five teachers. The head of the school is Mrs Ludivine Boudaud.
